Experimental Psychology

I am a second-year student studying Experimental Psychology and an intern at ReadOxford. I am an avid reader – as a child I was always either reading or dancing and that hasn’t really changed! I spent most of my childhood in Belgium, so I speak both Dutch and French in addition to English. I have always loved language and literature, so I feel very grateful to have grown up reading a wide range of books in several different languages. I love how a good story can transport you elsewhere and into the shoes of another person, opening your eyes and expanding your horizons. I would love to get more children reading, as I am a firm believer in the transformative power of books.

My favourite word has to be “fabulous”! I am a huge fan of Strictly Come Dancing, so speaking or hearing this word fills me with joy every time. For me, it conjures up connotations of glitter, sparkle and the magical sensation of dancing. We could all do with more fabulousness in our lives and I love the small contribution this word makes in mine.

My favourite childhood book was undoubtedly Harry Potter. Between the ages of 8 and 13, I read the entire series every year and never tired of it! I loved everything about it and could fully lose myself in the writing. My favourite book is probably the fifth one (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) and my favourite character is Hermione Granger (who I identify with quite a lot).
